"Like. A lot," said Aiden with a wide smile. "My mother's got one for her familiar. He's a silly one, is Loki. But he's really been a wonderful friend to her...when I couldn't."

Aiden ate a little more, considering his next question.

"Music...Like, or Don't Like?"

"Hmm. Like, for the most part. So long as it actually sounds like music. I can't play any instruments and probably can't sing either. Well, used to be able to, but then I ended up with damage to my throat, and I haven't tried since then." she paused to think a few moments, then, "Hmm... swords?"

Aiden smirked.

"I have to agree with you there. It must sound like music. Strauss, Mozart...Rossini and Chopin."

"Like," he said, "mother arranged for me to learn about sword play...archery...many weapons. I also learned fencing."

"Books. Like, or don't like?"

"Like," she replies with a nod. "Though I haven't had much of a chance to read lately. The other children are noisy, as I mentioned, though the younger ones tend to like being read to." She finished her sandwich. "Fruit?"

"As a rule? Don't like," said Aiden, chuckling a little, "though, I do like some fruit."

Aiden smirked, as if moving in for the kill. He had to suppress a chuckle as his next inquiry came to mind.

"Vegetables...like, or don't like?"

"Steak," said Aiden, "Mother cooks it for me sometimes."

The boy smiled nostalgically, remembering back to happier days, when it was just them. Alone. Before she had taken on the vital role as Headmistress of Hogwarts.

"I wish she had more time to spend with me," she said, "but she's always busy."

Aiden nibbled at another sandwich, more crisps.

"She's the Headmistress? Ah, that would explain why she is so busy then." sparrow frowned a bit. "I know how that feels, as my father was a police officer. He was gone quite often."

She paused a few moments, to fiddle with a fry, then opened her mouth to speak again as a group of kids, probably third or forth years, walked by the table.

"So, me mum," One young man was saying, "Was all insistant I spend my last month and a half of holiday helping poor parentless kids. So I've been hauling around these snot nosed little first years and today I had to pick up this ugly one. Her mum and dad probably--"

Sparrow shot a glare at the boy's back, tossing her fry down and pointing empathetically at him. "And, of course, there are people who don't appreciate the fact they still have parents and should be SILENT."

The boy's words cut off mid-sentence, for now just to the amusement of the friends he was with.

"Yeah. It's not something I tell everyone. They think I'm arrogant or something...because the Headmistress is my mother."

As the new arrivals appeared, Aiden's blue eyes flashed fury.

So--that was the boy, eh? And he dared to speak ill of his new friend.

Oh yes. That boy was going to pay. And pay big time.

Aiden slowly and methodically came up behind the boy, while his attention was on Sparrow. With a well-placed kick to the back of the knee, the older boy was down on one knee. Out from Aiden's boot came a small knife. It was just enough to act as a final defense against anyone who would do him harm. From behind, he held the knife to the boy's neck.

"I'd apologize, if I were you. Right now. Unless you want a scar to remember me by," he hissed angrily in the older boy's ear.

The young man opened his mouth to yell as he was kicked and fell to one knee, but no sound came out. He paused when Aiden's knife met the back of his neck, then gestured that no words could come out, kid, what did he want him to do, apologize by playing charades? His friends stared, not sure if they should move in to help, or stay back, as at least one of them must have heard Aiden say something about the Headmistress.

"Aiden, don't!" Sparrow got up rather quickly, frowning. "If her were sorry for what he was saying he wouldn't have said it in the first place."

The boy gave her a dirty look, then took this moment to attempt jabbing his elbow back into Aiden. It seemed that if Aiden wanted to 'start' a fight that the young man was more than willing to finish it.

Much like a predator, Aiden was ready. Keeping his knife hand clear, he side-stepped the elbow. Pivoting on his right leg, he kicked out with his left, hoping to send the boy sprawling, glaring at him.

"Apologize!" he insisted, his heightened instincts like those of a hunter. If any of the others tried to come to their friend's aid, Aiden would most likely cut them.

The bigger boy went sprawling. But he got up just as quickly, moving to leap upon Aiden with a visible but silent roar. His aim was to knock down the smaller boy, of course. No first year was going to make an idiot of him, you see.

It was in this moment of confusion that Sparrow darted forward to pull the older boy back. Yes, he was a jerk but he was a jerk who would probably be getting himself hurt if he kept up that behavior. Also, he was attacking her new friend and that was NOT acceptable.

"Get off him, you stupid jerk! Do you WANT To get yourself hurt!"

The boy might have been stronger, but Aiden was faster. He side-stepped the boy, watching him go sprawling. He pounced on him, sitting on him in just the right fashion to keep him down.

"I'd stay down if I were you," he said, booting his knife, "I don't really want to hurt you."

The boy did not look happy. In fact, it appeared as if he were yelling and mayhaps even cursing, but no sound came out. Sparrow sighed and said, "You know, I appreciate it but you didn't have to defend my honor. I'm not personally insulted--I just get extremely upset when people insult the dead."

She knelt down, and bent to whisper something in the boy's ear... which made him stop squirming so much. His eyes went wide and his face took on a horrified look as he stared at Sparrow.

"Next time, think before you speak. Don't assume that people are always petty and little--it's not a nice existence and it makes you the same. ...You know, you can talk."

The boy stared a few moments more then said, "I'm sorry! I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry! Let me up, you git, you're heavy and I'm getting out of here!"

Aiden waited for a few moments, while Sparrow spoke to the boy, before letting him up. His suspicions about her were confirmed. As he came up, Aiden placed a swift kick to his backside to hurry him along.

"That was for calling me a git," he snapped.

After a few moments, he gently guided Sparrow back out onto the street, Victoria following close behind. He turned into a quiet, out of the way place before he spoke to her.

"I am sorry if you were insulted by that," he said, "but it makes me angry when that sort of thing happens. There's no excuse for that."

The heat of his temper cooled rapidly.

"Oh...young master Aiden...what is your mother going to say about this?" asked Victoria in despair.

"She will probably withhold my pocket money until I graduate from Hogwarts," he muttered, "not to mention confine me to my room and make me clean out the cauldrons in her classroom. Without magic. Oh--and the bedpans in the Hospital Wing. For a month."

He sighed. This was not the first time he impulsiveness and penchant for chivalry had gotten him into trouble, and he seriously doubted it would be the last.

Sparrow sighed and shook her head. "I'm not mad at you,I promise. As I said, I dislike when people speak ill of the dead" She paused again. "it upset me because my father was murdered while we were here on vacation. My sister was taken and they left me for dead, which I fortunately don't remember."

She verbally paused again, then said, "whatever punishment you mother sees fit to give, please let me know. I'll share it with you."

Aiden couldn't help but smile and laugh.

"I wouldn't ask you to do that," he said, slowly reaching out to clasp Sparrow's shoulder in a friendly way, "but...if you insist. I hope you know how to clean without magic. Mother insists it's the best way."

"I doubt your mother will punish you too terribly, young master Aiden," said Victoria sympathetically, as if this was something she dealt with every day, "after all, you were defending Miss Sparrow's honour."

"Yeah...and I almost cut someone," he replied ruefully, "that won't make her happy."

"I only know how to clean without magic," she replied with a nod, and a slight smile. "Though I agree, she might not like the fact you used a knife."

Sparrow looked up the street, then down it. "...Though I don't know how to get home from here and my escort is having wild stories of how the headmasters son tried to kill him and I put a curse on him to make him quiet... I think I did that... I don't know how..."

"I thought you did," said Aiden, "I was right about you. You've got loads of magic. That's not why I like you, but it does help."

He smiled at her, putting an arm around her and giving her shoulder an easy squeeze. And with that, in Aiden's eyes, the friendship was sealed.

"C'mon," he said, "you need to be guided back, yes?"

She nodded, smiling a bit, though it wasn't much. But for the amount she had shown emotion it seemed to be a lot. She looked down the street one way, then the other again.

"Yes, the home is, um... Well, I can relate the name, at least." Which she did. (Sparrow's player, you see, is very uncreative.) "If you can't tell this is my first time out in the city alone. I admit any help would be appreciated, though I've troubled you both quite a bit this evening."

Aiden frowned. Much as he was loathe to let Sparrow return to this place which she obviously hated, there wasn't much else he would be able to do.

"All right," he said, "but we might want to wander a bit...I think the Leaky's proprietor isn't that thrilled with me."

It was a much of an excuse to stay with Sparrow as it was anything else, but he didn't think she would mind. Victoria was glaring a little.

"Young master Aiden..."

"Victoria..."

The way he said her name, with such an air of command, made her stop.

"You really are his son," she said with a little smirk, which made Aiden scowl.

"I'm not sure that Ms Victoria likes the idea," Sparrow replied. She turned to the woman, and bowed a bit. "I'm terribly sorry to have gotten your young charge into trouble, ma'am. I promise that I will not do it again."

Sparrow knew that they were just words but hoped that they would at least help a bit, since she'd been instrumental in getting Aiden into trouble in the first place. She looked back to Aiden. "I know I can wander around for a little while longer. As much as I dislike the place, though, my caretakers do genuinely worry about me. they think that the trauma of my father dying rendered me quiet and shy and don't believe me when I say I was always like this."

"All right then," he said, "follow me."

There was something a bit of the old light in Aiden's eyes as he led Sparrow down a series of quiet allies, coming in the back door of an, at the moment, unnamed shop. Victoria followed along quietly, like a perfect shadow.

"This is one of my hideaways," he explained quietly. He hoped his quieter tones would be an indicator to his new friend

"Well, well--if isn't young Master Snape," chuckled an old man, adjusting his spectacles, moving aside to admit them.

"Ladies," he said with a nod, "in trouble are we again?"

"Wasn't my fault," said Aiden, scowling again.

"Well--everything's in the usual place, m'boy," he said with a chuckle.

There was a little counter, and here Aiden took a seat. Soon enough, the old man had a cup of hot chocolate for Aiden, looking to ladies to see what they'd have, if anything.

(Sorry for the late reply! Have been thinking >.<)

Sparrow was quiet but attentive as they wandered through the alleys, though the narrow ways made her feel a little uneasy for a reason she wasn't sure of. She followed Aiden into the little 'hideaway' as he called it, noting his quiet tones with a nod and no verbal response.

She sat down next to him at the counter, looking around the place. When the elderly man looked to her, she said, "May I have some water, please?"

"Just as you like, little Miss," he said with a wink. Water with a lemon wedge soon appeared before her while Aiden sipped his hot chocolate.

"Mr. Creedy is something of an uncle," said Aiden, reaching under the counter and extracting a couple of books, "Mother would bring me to this shop when I was little, and he let me look over the books."

And indeed, the place was filled from floor to ceiling with tombes...some magical, mostly magical.

"Yes, indeed. Young master Aiden here, I've known since before he could walk," said Mr. Creedy with a chuckle, "but--can't say I've known 'im to bring someone to his sanctuary."

Here, he leaned in to speak to Sparrow.

"He must like you a lot, little Miss, to bring you here," he said seriously with a nod.

Aiden sipped at his cocoa. Gradually, the scowl and general air of annoyance left his features, and he was calm and easy again.

"Do you read a lot, Sparrow?" he asked her.
